In some cases it might be very difficult or impossible to run telephone wiring to where you need a phone, or, you just might not want to go through the trouble of having another jack installed.

Also, in some cases, standard cordless telephones, which are essentially radios, might have trouble getting a clean signal from the base unit to the handset through the walls of your premises.

Uniden (http://www.uniden.com) has a solution which might work for you.  From what they tell me this series of phones might be just the ticket for your needs --
  • CLX4
  • DCT6
  • DCT7
  • TRU8

Assuming you already have at least one phone jack on your premises, the base unit plugs into the phone jack and also into the nearest electrical outlet and uses your premises electrical wiring to carry the telephone line.  An extension is then just plugged into an electrical outlet near where you need it.  The extension then acts just like a wired telephone extension.  The system can be expanded to as many as four extensions.

Uniden also has another unit, the ELBT5, which will work with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone.

Visit the Uniden website for more information on these products.  According to Uniden's website, the following companies carry Uniden products:

  • ABC Warehouse, Amazon.com, Andersons, The

  • Bass Pro Shops, Best Buy, Bi-Mart, BoatersWorld, BrandsMart USA

  • Cabela's, Circuit City, Comp USA, Costco, Consumer's Marine

  • Electronic Express

  • Fingerhut, Fred Meyer, Fry's

  • Hammacher Schlemmer

  • JC Penney

  • Kmart

  • Lectron

  • Office Max

  • Sam's Club, Sears, Sharper Image, Shopko, Spiegel

  • Target

  • Verizon

  • Walmart, West Marine

The reason I became aware of these products is because my daughter and son-in-law recently purchased some of these for their home and they tell me they work fine with the quality of a regularly wired set.

Hope this helps somewhat.

If you've had any experiences with these phones, either pro or con, I'd appreciate hearing your comments as I would like to share them with others who might be considering purchasing this type of equipment, so they will be better able to take an informed decision.  Please send them to me at grossklas@sbcglobal.net.
